Early diagnosis of traumatic thoracic aortic rupture by transesophageal echocardiography.
Traumatic aorta rupture survival depends on early diagnosis requiring aortography. Aortography is the "gold standard" method, but it is time-consuming and may be dangerous in trauma patients with multiple organ injuries. Transesophageal echocardiography is a noninvasive technology that can be performed at the bedside. We report two cases in which transesophageal echocardiography enabled us to m...
متن کاملQuadricuspid Aortic Valve: A Rare Intraoperative Diagnosis by Transesophageal Echocardiography
Quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) is a rare congenital anomaly frequently associated with other anomalies particularly coronary anomalies. It may be detected on transthoracic or transesophageal echocardiography. We present here a case report of a 27-year-old male patient with a QAV, the valve being regurgitant and requiring aortic valve replacement. It has been reported as isolated case reports i...
متن کامل[Imaging diagnosis in acute aortic syndromes].
Acute aortic dissection is a clinical emergency. Its prognosis is related mainly with prompt and accurate diagnosis, as well as rapid treatment. In this paper we review the importance of different imaging techniques in the diagnosis of patients with acute aortic syndrome. Aortic dissection, intramural haematoma, and penetrating aortic ulcer are discussed.
متن کاملEchocardiography in the emergency assessment of acute aortic syndromes.
Acute aortic syndrome (AAS) is a collective term for several life-threatening acute aortic conditions: aortic dissection, intramural haematoma (IMH), penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer, and traumatic transection. Mortality from acute ascending aortic (type A) dissection increases rapidly immediately after presentation, reaching 1-2% per hour for the first 48 h. Early surgical intervention is rec...
متن کاملContrast transesophageal echocardiography in the diagnosis and localization of diffuse pulmonary telangiectasias.
Pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas are rare, usually related to the Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome, and are detected by chest CT scan or pulmonary angiography. In a 14-year-old boy without Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome, but with clinical evidence of a right-to-left shunt, ancillary diagnostic studies were negative for pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas, and the final diagnosis was made by contrast transes...
